Kaleidoscope

about

Sounds :

Guitar : Sure 57 mic on a 60's Kay parlor in open Eb

Banjo: Sure 57 on Nechville custom 5 string in open Eb

Pedal Steel : 80's Emmons in open Eb9th direct

Drums : Sure 57 mic on Japanese kick/snare

Process :

Recorded late one summer night in the garage. Crickets calling. Dog sleeping at my feet. I started with a rhythm track on the parlor with no idea of what id put on top. I took a pass with some suspended type shapes and this kind of chord based melody was born. I added the kick and snare next. Then tuned the top 3 strings on the parlor down lower to get the bass tones. From that point I just started layering, first steel, then finishing the tune off with the 5 string banjo. I do have room in my heart.

Listening back it kind of takes on different shapes sonically in my opinion. I called it "Kaleidescope"
