My cousins and I leave each other ridiculous voicemails sometimes. Often with someone else helping. We play a game called "word for word" where you (and those playing) go around saying one word at a time with the goal of getting into a flow of creating sentences. An experiment in human connection and sentence structure. "Word 4 Word" was one of my first creations of 2020. Recorded late at night in January at the Box in Burlington VT. I had just gotten into the space and was excited to get to work, however this track feels quite relaxed. I was sitting on the couch just messing around with the Kay, the guitar part came out and then the ideas started flowing. I put a map in my head on how to navigate the recording based around the new guitar part. When I had that down I added some passing tones as well as the slide guitar. Drums to follow. I have a Lowrey organ in my garage. I recorded the organ parts last just using the microphone on my ear buds. It was too cold out there to set up anything else. It kind of builds up to the solo section at the end. My cousins keep you entertained until then. The voices you hear are a cut up voicemail that they left me in 2017, playing the game.

Sounds:

Guitar: Kay 60's Parlor thru Melvin single ended Princeton. Sure 57 on the guitar and also capturing the amp in the room. 50's no name parlor guitar used for slide tones.

Organ: Lowrey "Festival" Organ recorded thru iPhone earbuds mic.

Drums: Japanese kit with help from Quincey the artificial drummer
